Lahore ranked as the world’s most polluted city on Friday, October 23, as air quality reached dangerous levels. Monitoring platform IQAir reported an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 302, placing the city in the hazardous category.
The high pollution level raises concerns about the health of residents, especially children, older people and those with breathing or heart problems. Exposure to polluted air can cause coughing, breathing difficulties and other health issues.
Lahore regularly experiences heavy smog during the winter months. Vehicle emissions, factory smoke, construction dust and the burning of crop waste contribute to the city’s poor air quality.
Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities when pollution levels are high and wear suitable masks when going outside. People with existing health conditions should take extra care and follow health advisories.
Authorities face continued pressure to control emissions and reduce smog. Long-term action against pollution sources is needed to improve air quality and protect public health.
