Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has said the government took steps to maintain fuel supplies and prevent long queues at petrol stations across Pakistan. He added that the country had secured enough energy supplies to meet its needs until November and was preparing for higher demand during winter.
Speaking at an event at a private university in Lahore on October 24, 2026, Aurangzeb said crude oil and other energy supplies remained satisfactory. He noted that further arrangements were being made to meet the country’s gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) requirements as household energy consumption usually increases in colder months.
The minister’s remarks come amid rising global energy prices and concerns over disruptions to oil and gas supplies due to regional tensions. He has also said the government would avoid buying expensive LNG cargoes from the spot market unless necessary, as existing contracts offer a more economical option.
However, continued uncertainty in international energy markets could create challenges for Pakistan in the coming months.
