Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have urged families to exercise extra caution when taking photographs and recording videos of women at weddings, warning that such footage could be misused by criminals for blackmail and harassment.
Police officials cautioned that individuals with malicious intentions may manipulate personal photographs and videos using artificial intelligence to create fake or inappropriate content, including deepfake images and videos.
Criminals may then use this fabricated material to threaten victims and their families, demanding money or attempting to force them into complying with their demands by threatening to share the content publicly.
The police warned that such incidents can have serious emotional and psychological consequences for victims, affecting their personal lives, family relationships, and mental well-being. They advised families to remain vigilant about how wedding photographs and videos are captured, stored, and shared, particularly on social media and other online platforms.
The advisory comes as Pakistan enters its winter wedding season, when wedding ceremonies, family gatherings, and photography events become more frequent.
Police have highlighted the importance of responsible photography, digital privacy, and greater awareness to prevent the misuse of personal images and protect women from online exploitation.
