HBL Microfinance Bank starts Islamic banking with first branch in Timergara

HBL Microfinance Bank has launched Islamic banking operations by opening its first branch offering these services in Timergara, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The opening follows the award of an Islamic banking licence by the State Bank of Pakistan.

Who the new services are intended for

The bank says the move broadens access to financial services based on Shariah principles. It is targeting customers who prefer banking arrangements consistent with their Islamic beliefs.

  • Individuals seeking Shariah-compliant financial services
  • Micro-entrepreneurs and small business owners
  • Farmers
  • Communities seeking financial options aligned with Islamic principles

Amir Khan, the bank’s president and chief executive, described the Timergara opening as part of its effort to make financial services more accessible and better suited to customers’ needs. He said the branch was particularly relevant to people most in need of the bank’s services.

Expansion planned beyond the first branch

Founded in 2002, HBL Microfinance Bank serves millions of customers, including underserved communities across Pakistan. It describes Islamic banking as an extension of that work, giving customers a wider choice of financial solutions.

The bank intends to expand its Islamic banking operations further. The Timergara branch marks the beginning of that service within its broader efforts to support customers’ economic activity.
