Marriage App Promises Lead to Alleged Rs 4.45 Million Fraud, NCCIA Arrests Suspect

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested a man accused of obtaining approximately Rs 4.45 million from a woman through false marriage promises on a matrimonial app. The agency alleges that he later threatened to post manipulated images of her on social media to extract further payments.

Online Transfers Followed by Alleged Threats

According to NCCIA, the suspect used the name Hassam Uddin and received the money through online bank transfers. The alleged threats involving the woman’s altered photos followed those payments.

The suspect has been booked under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016.

Agency Appeals to Other Potential Victims

Preliminary findings indicate that other women may have been approached using similar methods, the agency said. NCCIA has asked anyone potentially affected to report their case and has assured them that their information will be kept confidential.

The agency also urged people to be cautious when using matrimonial apps and social media platforms.
