After receiving advice from the New Zealand government about a “particular, credible threat,” New Zealand Cricket Chief Executive David White stated he had “no choice” but to cancel the visit of Pakistan.
The Black Caps shocked Pakistan’s cricket community on Friday by pulling out of their visit of the country minutes before the first ODI. They had given the cause as a’security danger,’ but had not given any other details.
“While the general tenor of the threat was promptly conveyed with the PCB, specific information could not, and will not, be divulged – privately or publicly,” White is quoted as saying in a new statement released by New Zealand Cricket (NZC).
“Before making the choice, we had multiple conversations with New Zealand government authorities… sadly, given the advice we’d got, there was no way we could stay in the nation,” White explained.
