Waqar Younis, a former Pakistan speed bowler, apologized “with folded hands” on Wednesday for his contentious statement made after the Babar Azam-led side thrashed India by 10 wickets in the ICC T20 World Cup ‘Super 12’ game on October 24.
Former India cricketers and commentators slammed Younis, who is also the Pakistan cricket team’s former bowling coach and resigned just a month before the start of the ICC T20 World Cup, for his controversial statement that opener Mohammad Rizwan offering namaz “in front of Hindus (during the match)” was “very special” to him.
Younis, on the other hand, apologized on social media on Friday, writing, “In the heat of the moment, I said something I didn’t mean, and it has wounded many people’s feelings.
I apologize; this was not my intention at all, and it was a true blunder. Sports bring people together from all walks of life, regardless of race, colour, or religion. (Folded hands symbol) #apologies”
