According to a top source in the Planning Division, the federal government recently overturned its prior decision and instructed the Pakistan Bureau of Numbers (PBS) to continue publishing weekly inflation statistics.
Following this decision, the PBS provided weekly data on key food items on Friday, showing that inflation as measured by the sensitive pricing index (SPI) increased by 1.81 percent from the previous week. It’s the greatest weekly gain in the last three months.
The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf administration launched the Decision Support System for Inflation (DSSI) in January to record and monitor important commodity prices in 17 major cities.
Each Thursday, the DSSI will produce a ranking of better governance based on the performance of deputy commissioners in these cities in terms of implementing their price lists, also known as DC rates, for critical food items.
