On Saturday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) was approached to enforce a ban on social media apps such as Bigo Live, TikTok, Likee and others, citing that they are becoming a source of the country’s promotion of indecent content.
Advocate Waqas filed a petition with the LHC noting that applications such as TikTok, Bigo Live, Likee and others are becoming a source of waste of time for youngsters. Making owners of the apps and respondents to government authorities in the case, the application said that in addition to this, TikTok has claimed the lives of many young people who lost their lives while trying to shoot short videos for the app.
The petition argued that, in addition to directing the authorities to enact legislation for the control of such applications, the apps should be banned immediately. This is not the first time that a petition to enforce a ban on TikTok has been filed before the LHC.
Furthermore, the application pointed out that these social media applications had become a source of promotion of vulgar content and that no action had been taken despite bringing the matter to the attention of the authorities in question, including the PTA.
