Xiaomi Mi Band 6 to have an in-built GPS receiver, reworked UI, smart home features and more

In the Zepp app (formerly Amazfit), which revealed crucial improvements over the current Band 5, the firmware for the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 6 was discovered. There are two models, one for China (XMSH16HM, with NFC) and one for the foreign market (XMSH15HM, most likely without NFC).

The new band will have a built-in GPS receiver to provide accurate speed and distance information for your workouts (the screen is far too tiny for navigation). The phone app will send A-GPS data to the band for quicker positioning.

Just like the current edition, the new band will feature a SpO2 (blood oxygen) sensor.

On the band itself, users will be able to view sleep data (currently, you can only view in the phone app). This could mean a larger display, and there are some hints that a higher resolution would be required for the display.

The Pomodoro Technique, a time management system that uses a timer, has been introduced to improve your focus. During a 25-minute cycle, app updates will be disabled, then the band will vibrate to remind you to take a 25-minute break.

Smart home devices that use the Mi Home platform will be able to monitor the Mi Smart Band 6. It’s not clear whether, this would be region-dependent. You’ll still be able to rely on Amazon Alexa to monitor stuff if it is (the Chinese version of the band will use Mi AI instead).

It looks like the new band would be able to view emojis within notifications. Among the Resources files, 308 images were found. The band will also be able to refuse calls with automated answers, such as “I’m driving at the moment, please contact me later.”

In mid-July of last year, the new Mi Smart Band 5 was released, so we are some months away from the sequel.
