The Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project has the capacity to generate 800 megawatts (MW) of low-cost hydel energy, irrigate 15,100 acres of land, and regulate floods in the surrounding area.
Mohmand Dam is a historic and one-of-a-kind structure being built on the Swat River in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tribal District Mohmand. It is expected to be completed in 2024.
The dam would also retain around 1.2 million acre-feet (MAF) of water, in addition to augmenting 160,000 acres of existing land and irrigating approximately 16,700 acres of new land, according to an official source speaking to APP.
In addition, 300 million gallons of water per day will be delivered to Peshawar for drinking reasons, with the project’s annual benefits estimated at Rs. 51.6 billion.
