Pakistan recently released 20 Indian fishermen from a Karachi prison on Sunday, as a goodwill gesture after they were imprisoned for fishing illegally in Pakistani waters.
As per details, the Indian fisherman were imprisoned in Karachi’s Landhi prison, from where they will be bussed to Lahore, and then to India via the Wagah border.
In addition, the Edhi Trust will cover all of the Indian inmates’ travel expenses from Karachi to Lahore.
According to the jail superintendent of Landhi prison, there are 588 Indian fisherman currently imprisoned in Pakistan, 42 of whom are on trial and 516 of whom have been convicted of their crimes.
However, 620 Pakistani fisherman and 10 others are currently imprisoned in Indian jails, awaiting repatriation to Pakistan.
