Sri Lanka to Borrow US $200 Million from Pakistan

The Sri Lankan government has started laying the groundwork to acquire a US $200 million credit line from Pakistan.

During Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardana’s recent official visit to Pakistan, the US $200 million credit line was discussed.

Treasury Secretary Sajith Attygalle announced that the two countries have agreed in principle to a credit line of $200 million, while the details of the credit line are still being worked out, According to Mirror Business.

The State Trading (General) Corporation would import cement, basmati rice, and medicines manufactured in Pakistan under this credit line.

The importation of cement would be prioritised, as Sri Lanka has recently had a cement scarcity, which has resulted in skyrocketing costs.
