Pakistan’s government has increased the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) following a rise in global oil prices.
Effective September 15, petrol has become Rs. 4.42 per litre more expensive, taking its price to Rs. 380.24 per litre. The price of high-speed diesel has also been raised by Rs. 6.10 per litre, bringing it to Rs. 409.42 per litre.
The latest increase is expected to add further pressure on transportation and household expenses as fuel costs remain elevated.
Despite the higher retail prices, the government continues to collect significant taxes and duties on petroleum products, amounting to Rs. 114 per litre on petrol and Rs. 100 per litre on diesel.
To provide some relief to consumers, the government has also announced a fuel assistance scheme offering Rs. 100 per litre in support to eligible users of motorcycles, three-wheelers and vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc.
The relief is intended to reduce the impact of rising fuel costs on lower-income and everyday vehicle users.
