Pakistan plans to close airspace to India after missile intruded into Pakistan

Pakistan said it was not satisfied with India’s “simple statement” about the “accidental firing” of a missile that landed in Pakistan’s Punjab province and called for a joint investigation to  establish the facts surrounding the incident.

Pakistan has taken note of the press release from the Defense Wing of India’s Press Information Bureau lamenting the “accidental launching” of the Indian-origin missile into Pakistani territory on March 9 due to a “technical malfunction” and the Decision to hold a High Court of Instruction, said by Foreign Minitry spokesman.

The Foreign Office also said that the incident raised a number of fundamental questions regarding safety protocols and engineering safeguards against accidental or unauthorized missile launches in a nuclearised environment.

“A matter this serious cannot be addressed by the simplified statement by the Indian authorities,” he said.

“India’s decision to convene an internal investigative tribunal is insufficient as the missile landed on Pakistani territory. Pakistan calls for a joint investigation to  establish the facts surrounding the incident,” he said.

“India must clarify the measures and processes in place to prevent accidental missile launches and the specific circumstances of this incident,” the FO said, and adding that India is clear on the type and specifications of the missile that fell on Pakistani territory should explain.
