Sources reported that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) had been asked to increase electricity prices by Rs 4.05 per unit.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) submitted the request for an electricity tariff increase regarding the fuel adjustment for April. NEPRA will accept the guilty plea on May 31 and, according to the sources, will charge the masses a surcharge of Rs 59,450 crore.
They said that after the approval, the energy tariff would be increased for all power distribution companies except K-Electric.
In early May, the National Electricity Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved increased consumer energy tariffs from various distribution companies (DISCO) and K-Electric.
The regulator informed that the electricity tariff for K-Electric consumers was raised to Rs 1.38 per unit because of the February 2022 fuel price adjustment.
Karachi’s sole power distributor had sought a Rs 3 raise.45 per regulator unit. The latest increase will result in a financial burden of Rs 1,580 crore for K-Electric consumers.
According to the authority, the fuel price adjustment will be passed on to KE consumers in May invoices. The regulator decided at the April 4 hearing.
In addition, NEPRA also increased electricity prices for other DISCOs up to Rs 2.86 per unit with the fuel price adjustment after distributors requested an electricity tariff increase of Rs 3.15 per unit. Other DISCO power consumers will bear the burden of Rs 29 crore with no lifeline. The decision was made at NEPRA’s April 27 hearing.
