US Urges Pakistan to Seek Debt Relief from China

Recently, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken admonished Pakistan in order to seek debt relief and restructuring from the neighboring country China. Single largest creditors after Pakistan has suffered from havoc flood.

Approximately 1600 people died whereas the estimated cost of flood loss standing at $28 billion.

However, the Green flag made an appeal for “debt swaps for climate action” to other countries.

Moreover, US Secretary of State also informed Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in Washington, “I also urged our colleagues to engage China on some of the important issues of debt relief and restructure so that Pakistan can more quickly recover from the floods.”, as per the state department readout of the huddle.
