The Ministry of Information Technology announced on Tuesday that it plans to hold Digital Pakistan Policy Roundtables, titled “Improving Lives through Modern, Affordable, and Reliable Digital Services,” as part of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Digital Pakistan vision. Beginning March 24th, roundtables will be held in Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad, in collaboration with the following institutions:
- PSEB (Pakistan Software Export Board)
- NITB (National Information Technology Board)
- P@SHA (Pakistan Software Houses Association)
- NTC (National Telecommunication Corporation)
- VU (Virtual University)
One of the main goals of the conference is to bring together stakeholders from the public and private sectors, academia, and donor agencies to make suggestions on the policy’s main pillars:
- E-governance
- ICT Infrastructure
- Human Resource Development
- Innovation & Entrepreneurship
- Fintech
- E-commerce & digital platforms
- IT/TeS Development
- Exports, Privacy, and Security
The recommendations will eventually contribute to the creation of a comprehensive digital strategy.
The yet-to-be-introduced Digital Pakistan 2021 policy would help Pakistan’s digital transition by ensuring affordable and trustworthy digital services to improve citizens’ quality of life and economic well-being. The policy outlines the Ministry of IT’s legislative responsibilities, including the need to implement the necessary policy mechanisms, rules, and regulations to ensure a long-term IT environment.
