According to Rafael Mariano Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Pakistan’s nuclear security is “world-class.”
The IAEA DG said Pakistan’s ability to build “new nuclear power plants” suggests a “promising future” for nuclear energy and fulfilling Sustainable Development Goals while addressing a seminar in Islamabad on Thursday (SDGs).
The director general claims that there is substantial political support in Pakistan for new nuclear power plants. Grossi praised Pakistan’s nuclear security and referred to nuclear facility safety procedures as “world-class.”
The IAEA director is in Pakistan for a two-day visit to talk about issues pertaining to the Pakistan-IAEA partnership.
IAEA Director General Grossi met with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari while he was there to explore collaboration between the two organisations in the fields of health, agriculture, industry, nuclear medicine, and power production.
