In order to decide the destiny of PSL matches set to take place in Lahore and Rawalpindi, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) held an emergency meeting with all PSL franchise owners on Friday.
The PCB had to pay the interim Punjab government PKR 500 million in order to host the matches in Lahore and Rawalpindi. The board has already given the Punjabi government PKR 50 million for food-related expenses.
The remaining PKR 450 million is currently being sought by the provincial government for illumination and security objectives. The board is currently considering moving the Punjab leg of PSL 8 to Karachi, Pakistan, in order to save these costs.
According to details, the meeting took place via video conference call, where the PSL franchise owners gave PCB management committee chairman Najam Sethi the final authority to take the call on the aforementioned matter.
According to Najam Sethi, giving in to the provincial government’s demand will create a bad precedent for the future and cost the board and PSL franchises money.
The PSL franchises have refused to foot the PKR 450 million bill demanded by the provincial government. Moreover, PCB is still negotiating the matter with the provincial government and is expected to reach a decision by this evening.
