The elephant in the Karachi Zoo has a bone and joint illness. The disease affected Noor Jehan two and a half months ago. Her condition has gotten worse, severely paralysing her hind limbs. Together with Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah, Governor Tessori went to the Karachi Zoo.
The governor ordered an in-depth inquiry of Noor Jehan’s treatment and care. He added that although the zoo has certain issues, they would be fixed. He announcesd to build a conventional hospital for animal care at the Karachi zoo. But for the time a team from Lahore arrived for Noor Jahan.
After a week a team of eight-member from the Austrian animal welfare organisation Four Paws went through complex process With the support of a crane and a fire engine.
Dr. Amir Khalil, who oversaw the team, said, “We almost lost her when we gave her sedation, but fortunately we had all the necessary preparations, and Noor Jehan stood up again.”
Minister Nasir Hussain Shah also stated that an enormous amount of budget would be set out for the Karachi zoo in the upcoming Sindh budget. He said that the provincial government began working on zoo improvement projects since the KMC was short on funding.
He stated that initiatives are being taken to help the KMC become self-sufficient.
