Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI), the nation’s two top spy agencies, met with the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Umar Ata Bandial, and two other apex court judges on Monday to discuss a matter involving the Punjab election on May 14.
According to sources, the conference between the judges and the heads of the ISI and MI has been going on for more than three hours. They claimed that the intelligence official briefed the judges on the security problems the nation is currently facing.
On April 4, a three-judge panel- the chief justice, Justice Munib Akhtar, and Justice Ijazul Ahsan ruled that the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to delay the election for the Punjab Assembly was “unconstitutional” and mandated that the province hold elections on May 14.
Invoking a deteriorating security scenario in the cash-strapped nation, the ECP postponed the provincial assembly election in the politically significant Punjab province by more than five months on March 22.
