Recognized Foreign Driving Licenses in UAE

Citizens of 43 different nationalities can drive a vehicle in the UAE using their national driving license without any restrictions during their visit. To do so, the license must be valid and the entry into the country must be for a purpose other than residency.

Replacement of National License with UAE License

Citizens of 44 nationalities can replace their national driving license with a UAE driving license during their residency in the country, subject to fulfilling certain conditions. These conditions include:

  • Being among the countries permitted to exchange a driver’s license.
  • Holding a valid residence permit.
  • Possessing a permanent and valid national license.
  • Passing a medical examination and complying with other requirements to exchange driving licenses.
  • Fulfilling the legal age requirement in accordance with the laws and regulations of the UAE.
