Ethiopian Airlines, the largest airline network in Africa, has resumed its direct flights to Karachi after a gap of 19 years.
This morning, the first flight in nearly two decades arrived at Jinnah International Airport with 110 passengers on board. Among the passengers were senior Ethiopian diplomats, officials, and a trade delegation. They received a warm and traditional welcome at the Old Terminal upon their arrival.
The Ethiopian delegation was greeted by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and his team, including provincial ministers Sharjeel Memon, Nasir Shah, Ikramullah Dharejo, and Murtaza Wahab.
Ethiopian Airlines took to Twitter to announce the exciting development: “Ethiopian Airlines is pleased to announce that it has commenced four times weekly direct flights to Karachi, Pakistan.”
This is not the first time Ethiopian Airlines has operated direct flights to Karachi. The airline previously offered this service in the 1960s (from July 1966 to December 1971) and the 1990s (from June 1993 to July 2004). After a hiatus of almost two decades, the airline has now resumed the service on May 9, 2023, marking its third return to Karachi.
