In the wake of violent protests from PTI fans, following the arrest of Imran Khan, Pakistan Telecommunication company (PTA) suspended internet services across the country on 9th May, 2023. People are concerned about the restoration of internet services as majority relies on online working and freelancing.
However, PTA stated today that they have not received any instructions about restoration of internet services across the country from Ministry of Interior. They further added that broadband internet service is available to users with limited access.
The uncertainty occurred as violent protestors damaged government and military buildings. Ministry of interior therefore, directed PTA to restrict the internet service and social media platforms to halt the flow of fake information.
Interior minister Rana Sanaullah stated earlier on 11th May, 2023, that mobile internet services will be restored in the next 36 hours. It still remains unclear when the internet will be restored completely.
