Nation Observes ‘Youm-e-Takreem Shuhada’ to Pay Rich Tribute to Martyrs

Today, the nation is observing Youm-e-Takreem Shuhada-e-Pakistan, also known as Martyrs Reverence Day, to honor and remember the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives while defending the country and its people.

The main event took place at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir as the chief guest. The ceremony included paying rich tributes to the martyrs, with notable personalities laying flowers at the martyrs’ monument.

Several prominent figures attended the ceremony, including former army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, former chairman of the joint chiefs of staff committee Gen (retd) Nadeem Raza, Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam, Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman, and other members of society.

Throughout the country, various events featuring Quran recitation and prayers have been organized to commemorate the day. Additionally, numerous ceremonies will be held at martyrs’ memorials to honor their sacrifices.

COAS Asim Munir had previously announced the observance of May 25 as “Pakistan Martyrs’ Day” and expressed his strong disapproval of the May 9 attacks on army installations, monuments, and the desecration of memorials to martyrs, considering them unacceptable.

During an award ceremony at GHQ Rawalpindi, he emphasized that every soldier and officer in the armed forces prioritizes their duty and responsibilities above regional, linguistic, and political differences.

He further stated that a strong army is crucial for a country’s security and unity, highlighting the significance of the armed forces in safeguarding the nation.
