Saima Kamil, Former Governor of SBP and Deputy CEO of UBL, First Woman to Lead a Major Pakistani Bank

The Federal Government appointed Ms. Sima Kamil as the Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), making her the first woman to hold this position. She started her role on August 26, 2020, for a term of three years.

As the Deputy Governor, Ms. Kamil is responsible for overseeing important departments including Digital Financial Services, Financial Inclusion, Information Technology, and Human Resources & Services. With more than 35 years of experience in commercial banking, she brings a wealth of knowledge to her role. She has worked in prestigious international banks such as American Express Bank, ANZ Grindlays Bank, and Standard Chartered Bank, focusing on areas such as Corporate Banking and Risk Management.

Before joining the SBP, Ms. Kamil achieved another significant milestone by becoming the first female President of a private sector commercial bank, United Bank Limited. She also held senior positions at Habib Bank Limited for 16 years, including Head of Corporate & Investment Banking and Head of Branch Banking. Additionally, she has been involved in Microfinance as a Director of the First Microfinance Bank.

Ms. Kamil holds a business degree from Kingston University, UK, and an MBA from City University, London. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the banking sector and her support for inclusivity in business leadership, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate degree by Kingston University in 2019. She is also a certified director from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi.

With her vast experience and remarkable accomplishments, Ms. Sima Kamil serves as an inspiration for aspiring leaders in the banking industry and beyond.
