Amrudeen Sheik Dawood, a 49-year-old man from India, has built a copy of the Taj Mahal as a tribute to his late mother, Jailani Bibi. Using 100 tonnes of marble imported from Rajasthan and investing Rs. 156 Million, Dawood created a mausoleum resembling the iconic Taj Mahal on a one-acre plot of land in Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu.Inspired by the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Taj Mahal, Dawood, who works as a rice merchant, aimed to honor his mother with a Mughal-style memorial.
The replica stands 12 meters tall on a 1.2-meter platform, with four minarets reaching a height of 14 meters. The mausoleum’s width is approximately 33 meters.After Jailani Bibi’s sudden passing in 2020 due to a heart attack, Dawood decided to build a memorial instead of burying her in a traditional cemetery.
With the help of engineers and architects, he chose a design reminiscent of the famous Taj Mahal in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.Jailani Bibi, who became a widow at the age of 36, raised her six children, including Dawood and her foster son Mohammed Abdul Khadar, as a single mother. She devoted her life to raising her family and managing her late husband’s business without remarrying.1
