The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has instructed all universities not to celebrate the Hindu festival of Holi on their campuses. In a letter dated June 20, the HEC emphasized that universities should focus on academic pursuits, intellectual debates, cognitive learning, and promoting rational discussions.
They should distance themselves from activities that are seen as conflicting with the country’s identity and societal values. The directive comes after students at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) celebrated Holi on June 13, organized by the Mehran Students Council (MSC) and joined by other student councils. The event took place in the parking area between the International Relations and Anthropology departments.
