Visual Representation of What a Submarine Implosion Would Look Like

The US Coast Guard said on Thursday that all five crew members on the Titan Five submersible have died. The submersible suffered a “catastrophic implosion,” which means it collapsed inward because of intense pressure from the ocean. This is different from an explosion, which would have caused the submersible to break apart from within.

As the submersible went deeper into the ocean, the water pressure increased greatly, likely causing it to collapse under the immense weight.
