Microsoft Launches Free AI Training With Professional Certificate

Microsoft and LinkedIn have taken significant steps to cater to the increasing demand for AI skills in today’s job market. Through the AI Skills Initiative, Microsoft is offering free coursework via LinkedIn Learning to equip individuals with the necessary knowledge and tools to harness AI technology responsibly and ethically.

Course Details:

The AI Skills Initiative includes a comprehensive course developed in collaboration with LinkedIn. The course covers various aspects of AI, including an introduction to AI, responsible AI practices, and the concept of generative AI. It is currently available in English, with plans to offer it in other languages in the future. Completing the course grants participants a professional certificate in generative AI from Microsoft, which can be displayed on their LinkedIn profiles.

In addition to the course, Microsoft provides a trainer toolkit with AI content for educators and offers a free AI skills challenge on Microsoft Learn. The challenge focuses on teaching essential AI skills using Microsoft technology.

Course Breakdown:

The course consists of five instructional videos, totaling nearly four hours of content. The videos cover the following topics:

  1. Introduction to Artificial Intelligence
  2. Understanding Generative AI
  3. Generative AI and its Evolution in Online Search
  4. Enhancing Work Efficiency with Microsoft Bing Chat
  5. Ethical Considerations in the Age of Generative AI

Certification Process:

To earn the professional certificate, participants must complete all the videos in the course. The exam becomes accessible only after finishing the entire training. Upon passing the exam, participants receive immediate access to their certificate, which can then be added to their LinkedIn profiles and shared with their professional network.

The AI Skills Initiative is a response to the urgent demand for AI skills identified by companies. According to the World Economic Forum, AI skills rank as the third highest priority for company training programs. Microsoft’s research indicates that while many people desire AI to handle more of their workload, there is concern (49%) that AI might replace their jobs. This initiative aims to help workers gain the knowledge and experience necessary to leverage AI technologies effectively.

Building on Success:

Microsoft’s Skills for Jobs program has already helped millions of individuals worldwide transition into new careers in high-demand fields such as cybersecurity. The AI Skills Initiative represents the next phase of this ongoing effort, bringing further innovation and partnerships to the forefront.
