Army Called in to Maintain Law and Order Across Pakistan During Muharram

During the Holy month of Muharram ul Haram, the Pakistan Army has been asked to help the local authorities in keeping the peace and order across the country.

According to Article 245, four companies of the armed forces have been sent to major cities, and they will be stationed at specific points. The Interior Ministry has also authorized the deployment of the armed forces in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu, and the four provinces, as requested by the local authorities for Muharram.

To ensure safety during religious observances, Punjab has imposed Section 144, which means there are restrictions on processions and gatherings without permission. Other regions have also put in place similar rules.

Muslims observe Muharram to mourn the martyrdom of Imam Husayn Ibn Ali. Some people fast on Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram. This day is marked by significant processions and gatherings by Shia Muslims.
