The match was being played at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka. When the rain started, India had scored 147 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 24.1 overs. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were batting at that time with scores of 8 and 17 respectively.
Earlier, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill had played well, both scoring half-centuries. Rohit made 56 runs and Gill made 58 runs.
Fans were disappointed as persistent rain made it impossible to continue the match on Sunday. After multiple inspections by officials, the match was finally called off at 8:15 pm PKT.
