Samreen Amir has made history by becoming the first woman from the Christian community to be appointed as a Station House Officer (SHO) in the tribal district of Kurram in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
At 35 years old, Samreen has taken on the role of SHO at the Parachinar Police Station, marking a significant step toward diversity and women’s empowerment within the police department. Her appointment recognizes her prior achievements in the field, including leading raids and actively participating in police exercises in the tribal district.
This historic appointment aims to improve the sense of security for women visiting police stations to report issues like inheritance problems, domestic violence, and other challenges faced by women in the district.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police, Akhtar Hayat Khan, emphasized that appointing a woman as an SHO reflects the department’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Additionally, there is now a female deputy muharrir serving at a police station, further promoting inclusivity and diversity in law enforcement.
