Erdogan asks Elon Musk to Build Tesla Factory in Turkey

Turkey’s President, Tayyip Erdogan, has asked Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, to think about opening a Tesla factory in Turkey, as per an announcement from Turkey’s communications directorate. Musk mentioned that many Turkish suppliers already work with Tesla, making Turkey a strong candidate for Tesla’s next factory location. Tesla hasn’t officially responded to this request yet.

The discussion between Erdogan and Musk occurred during a meeting at Turkish House, a skyscraper near the United Nations in New York. President Erdogan is currently in the United States for the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. During the meeting, Erdogan also expressed Turkey’s interest in cooperating in artificial intelligence and SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet project.

Musk also showed interest in working with Turkish authorities to obtain the necessary license for offering Starlink satellite services in Turkey.
