Petrol Price Would be Rs.1,000 Per Litre if PDM Govt Didn’t Take Steps: Former PM Nawaz Sharif

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who leads the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), has voiced his concerns about the possibility of petrol prices reaching PKR 1,000 per liter if not for the actions taken by the previous government.

Speaking virtually to party members in Lahore, Sharif criticized past administrations for what he saw as politically motivated decisions that pushed Pakistan dangerously close to a financial crisis.

He emphasized that the PML-N was willing to take significant risks to prevent a financial collapse and pointed out how India had successfully followed Pakistan’s economic strategies, while Pakistan had increasingly relied on foreign financial assistance.

In recent developments, despite promises of relief for the public, the government raised petrol and diesel prices significantly. Petrol prices went up by PKR 26.2 per liter, reaching PKR 331.38 per liter, and there were additional increases of PKR 58 per liter for petrol and PKR 56 per liter for diesel within a month under the caretaker government.
