South Africa Beats Sri Lanka in World Cup Match

In a recent cricket match, South Africa batted first and set a huge target of 429 runs for Sri Lanka. This impressive score was largely thanks to the outstanding performances of Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram.

All three of these batsmen achieved centuries, with Markram setting a new record for the fastest century in World Cup history, taking only 49 balls to reach this milestone. This broke the previous record held by Kevin O’Brien of Ireland, who scored a century in 50 balls during the 2011 World Cup. Additionally, this total of 429 runs became the highest ever in the history of the ICC World Cup, and it marked the first time that three different batsmen scored centuries in a single innings.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka faced a challenging task and was eventually all out for just 326 runs in 44.5 overs. It was clear that South Africa had come well-prepared for the match. Sri Lanka encountered difficulties early on when opener Pathum Nissanka was dismissed by Marco Jansen in the very first over. However, Kusal Mendis played an aggressive innings, scoring a quick 76 off 42 balls, which included eight sixes and four fours.

Despite Mendis’s efforts, he was eventually dismissed by Kagiso Rabada, and Sri Lanka continued to lose wickets regularly. Charith Asalanka managed to contribute with a score of 79 off 65 balls, featuring 12 boundaries. Captain Saun Shanaka also made a valuable contribution of 68 runs, but despite their efforts, the team couldn’t successfully chase down the formidable total.

Looking ahead, Sri Lanka will face Pakistan in Hyderabad on October 10, while South Africa is scheduled to play against Australia in Lucknow on October 12.
