In a significant development, the Indian embassy has now initiated the visa processing for Pakistani journalists who wish to travel to India to cover the ongoing International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
On Tuesday, the embassy began contacting journalists interested in covering the World Cup in India and directed them to submit their passports as soon as possible.
This long-awaited progress comes a day after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) once again expressed its disappointment regarding the delay in issuing Indian visas for Pakistani fans and journalists, even though the World Cup 2023 has been underway for nearly a week.
The mega cricket event started on October 5, but Indian authorities had not issued visas to Pakistanis, causing uncertainty for those who wanted to attend the World Cup.
The PCB, in a statement, mentioned that PCB Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf had met with Pakistan Foreign Secretary Syrus Sajjad Qazi, expressing serious concerns and alarm over the delay in issuing visas to fans and journalists from Pakistan who intended to cover the World Cup in India.
