Porsche and Frauscher have teamed up to create an electric sports boat, using technology from the upcoming Porsche Macan EV. While Frauscher has been making electric boats since 1955, this collaboration aims to advance the electric boating industry.
Stefan Frauscher, the grandson of the company’s founder, highlighted the increasing significance of electric propulsion in boating.
Customers appreciate electric boats for their quiet operation, lack of emissions, and reliability. The electric boat maintains the same size as the 585 daycruiser (8.67 meters long and 2.49 meters wide) but incorporates components from the upcoming Porsche Macan EV, set to launch next year.
The electric boat uses Porsche’s adapted drive technology originally designed for future road vehicles.
This technology is based on the Porsche PPE platform, which will underpin the Macan EV. It includes an electric motor with a 400 kW limit, a 100 kWh battery borrowed from the Macan, and power electronics.
The battery is located under the rear lounge area of the boat, and Porsche has added a waterproof enclosure to protect the motor from the elements. The boat also offers various drive modes similar to Porsche’s vehicles, such as Docking, Range, Sport, and Sport Plus, enhancing its versatility and usability.
