Another Massive Earthquake of Magnitude 6.3 Jolts Afghanistan

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 struck western Afghanistan, causing significant damage and loss of life, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

This earthquake occurred shortly after a similar quake in the region. About 20 minutes later, a strong aftershock with a magnitude of 5.5 shook the area, located 33 kilometers north-northwest of Herat, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

These tremors have led to the destruction of entire villages, and the death toll has exceeded 1,000 people.

Herat City, the capital of the western province of the same name, experienced the earthquake on Sunday, resulting in widespread devastation and causing over 1,000 deaths and hundreds of injuries.

UNICEF reported that more than 90% of the casualties were women and children. The situation remains critical in the affected region, with many residents lacking shelter, and volunteers are working tirelessly to find survivors.
