Shubman Gill Dethrones Babar Azam as No. 1 ODI Batter in ICC Rankings

Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistan cricket team, has lost his position as the top-ranked ODI (One Day International) batsman in the latest update of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s Batting Rankings. This marks the end of a remarkable reign that lasted for more than two years. His replacement at the top spot is Shubman Gill, a talented and emerging Indian cricketer.

Shubman Gill’s ascent to the number one position in the rankings was driven by his impressive performance in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Gill showcased his batting skills and consistently scored runs during the tournament, which catapulted him to the top of the rankings. Notably, he now joins an elite group of Indian cricketers who have previously held the coveted top spot in the ODI batting rankings, including legends like Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli.

The ICC rankings for cricket are updated on a weekly basis, every Wednesday. As of the latest update, Shubman Gill holds the first position with 830 points, while Babar Azam closely follows in the second spot with 824 points.

Apart from Gill’s achievement, Virat Kohli, one of India’s cricketing stalwarts, has made a notable move in the rankings, securing the fourth position, which highlights his consistent excellence in ODI cricket.

In addition to the Indian cricketers’ performances, Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman has also made a significant rise in the rankings, now sitting in the 11th position. This elevation is attributed to his impressive showing against the New Zealand cricket team, which has boosted his standing in the ODI batting rankings.

These rankings and shifts provide insights into the current form and performance of international cricketers, and they serve as a benchmark for assessing the best ODI batsmen in the world at any given time.
