Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal Appointed as Bowling Coach of Pakistan


Former Pakistani cricketers Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal, notable members of the successful 2009 T20 World Cup and 2012 Asia Cup squads, have assumed coaching roles for the Pakistan Men’s Team. Umar Gul is now the Fast Bowling Coach, while Saeed Ajmal has taken on the role of Spin Bowling Coach.

This marks their coaching debut, with assignments including the upcoming Test series against Australia (from December 14, 2023, to January 7, 2024) and the T20I series against New Zealand (from January 12 to 21, 2024).

Umar Gul’s prior coaching experience includes serving as the bowling coach for the Pakistan Men’s Team during the T20I series against Afghanistan and New Zealand. Additionally, he contributed as the bowling coach for Quetta Gladiators in the last HBL PSL season and fulfilled the role of Afghanistan’s bowling coach in the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup 2022. His international playing career, spanning from 2003 to 2016, saw him represent Pakistan in 47 Tests, 130 ODIs, and 60 T20Is.

Saeed Ajmal, a former world no. 1 ODI bowler, now assumes the responsibility of Spin Bowling Coach. Ajmal, who made his international debut in 2008, boasts an impressive record with 35 Tests, 113 ODIs, and 64 T20Is, accumulating a total of 447 wickets. He also gained coaching experience as the spin bowling coach for the HBL PSL franchise Islamabad United.

Umar Gul expressed his enthusiasm for the coaching role, stating, “I am pleased to join as the bowling coach of the Pakistan team and feel honored to contribute to Pakistan cricket under the leadership of Chairman PCB Management Committee Mr. Zaka Ashraf.

With prior experience working with the men’s side, I aim to bring my coaching expertise to elevate Pakistan’s bowling prowess.” Their appointments signify a valuable addition to the coaching staff, and fans are eager to witness their impact on the team’s performance.
