These New “AI Agents” Could Take Your Office Job Soon

The introduction of ChatGPT last year sparked a significant increase in AI research and investment. One exciting concept gaining attention is the idea of “AI agents,” a new type of AI system that could reshape the job market. These agents function like personal assistants or “synthetic employees,” capable of making decisions on their own and operating applications independently.

This week, a British start-up called Tomoro highlighted this concept, aiming to shorten the workweek to three days within the next five years using AI.

Tomoro’s founder, Ed Broussard, envisions a revolutionary change in office jobs, emphasizing that they’re not just talking about automating repetitive tasks. Tomoro aims to integrate synthetic employees into businesses alongside real people, capable of reasoning, learning, adapting their tone, and problem-solving.

AI agents are designed to have autonomous decision-making abilities, going beyond simple text and image generation. Tomoro believes these agents could browse the internet, make online payments, and use various apps.

According to Bill Gates, in about five years, computers could be instructed, and AI would handle the rest, providing a level of personal assistant technology beyond current capabilities.

Market analysts predict rapid growth in the AI agent market. Research by MarketDigits suggests that the AI market could reach $65 billion by 2030, with an annual growth rate of 45%. This indicates a significant and swift expansion in the use and demand for AI technology in various sectors.
