Mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed might be picked for Pakistan’s 15-player squad in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 in India. This decision is prompted by concerns about Shadab’s recent poor performance in One Day Internationals (ODIs).
The team captain, Babar Azam, had a crucial meeting with the selection committee to discuss and finalize the squad. They aim to keep changes to a minimum, closely resembling the lineup from the recently concluded Asia Cup.
Inzamam-ul-Haq, the Chief Selector, and Babar will meet with Zaka Ashraf, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee, to seek his approval for the chosen team.
The official announcement of the squad is expected in the upcoming week, possibly on Wednesday or Thursday. The selection committee has also taken into account the fitness status of players recovering from injuries.
Naseem Shah’s shoulder injury may prevent him from participating in the entire World Cup. This has prompted consideration of alternative fast bowlers like Zaman Khan, Shahnawaz Dahani, Hasan Ali, and Arshad Iqbal.
