Today, Afghanistan will take the field in Pakistan for the first time ever in an international competition when they face Bangladesh in Lahore at the Asia Cup 2023.
Mohammad Nabi, a legendary all-rounder, is just one of several Afghan cricketers who learned the game as kids while living in Pakistan.
Afghanistan’s next Group B match is on September 5 against Sri Lanka, hence this is also their first match of the Asia Cup 2023.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh will be hoping to redeem themselves after their opening loss by beating Sri Lanka, as they need a victory to make the Super 4 tournament.
The only team from Group A to advance to the Super 4 round is Pakistan. The first match saw the Green Shirts prevail over Nepal, but the second against India was postponed due to rain.
Between August 30 and September 17, 2023, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will play host to the Asia Cup.
Since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declined to send their team to Pakistan due to security concerns, the Asia Cup will not be held in Pakistan.
Group A also consists of Nepal and India, where Pakistan is placed. In Group B, along with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, you have Afghanistan.
Sri Lanka will host not only the final, but also nine additional matches. Pakistan will host only four games.
