After heavy rainfall in occupied Kashmir, Pakistan issued a high flood alert

According to ARY NEWS, the Flood Forecast Division (FFD) has issued a notice regarding a major flood in River Chenab following heavy rainfall in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Between 2:00 pm and 1:00 am, a water influx of 200,000 to 300,000 cusecs is expected at the Marala headworks on the Chenab River, according to the FFD.

The water is projected to hit the Khanki headworks on July 13 and the Qadirabad headworks afterwards. “The nullahs that fall into the Chenab River will experience a major flood between July 12 and 13,” the FFD warned, adding that all involved institutions have been notified.

Floods have also been predicted in the upper areas of the country as glaciers begin to melt at the start of the summer season, prompting the authorities to warn inhabitants to be on the lookout.

Malik Amin Aslam, the Secretary-General of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, paid an emergency visit to Hunza on June 14 to examine the steps needed to address the issue. Hunza is one of the locations predicted to be impacted heavily by floods as a result of glacier breakdown.

Malik Amin Aslam has ordered provincial and federal personnel to be on the lookout for floods in any section of Hunza, as well as making the weather alert system operational.

The upper areas of Hunza, according to Malik Amin Aslam, are expected to be seriously affected by the floods triggered by the meltdown. “We’re working on a strategy to protect populations that might be impacted,” he said.
