A recent study from the UK showed that a special computer program can secretly listen to the sounds of your typing and figure out exactly what you’re typing. This might sound like something from a story, but it’s real.
This is a big problem because the program can guess your passwords very accurately, even up to 95% of the time. This discovery reminds us how important it is to keep our digital things safe.
The researchers tried training a computer program to understand typing sounds by looking at things like how hard you press the keys and the timing of your typing.
They used a MacBook Pro computer for the experiment. Surprisingly, the program was able to copy the typing almost perfectly. This shows that our passwords can be easily stolen. What’s interesting is that the program pays more attention to how you type rather than how noisy your keyboard is.
So, even if you have a quiet keyboard, it doesn’t necessarily protect you. The program even worked when people were talking on the computer using apps like Zoom and Skype, copying the typing correctly about 90% of the time.
This study tells us that our private information can be in danger, and it’s really important to do things to keep our personal stuff safe online.
