Air New Zealand, a major international airline, has announced a unique requirement for its passengers starting next month. Passengers boarding the plane will be asked to step on a weighing scale along with their luggage.
This measure will be carried out for a period of five weeks as part of a survey to determine the average weight of passengers and their cabin baggage on international flights. The main goal of this initiative is to ensure safety, as the airline relies on average weight data collected every five years to ensure the safety of passengers, crew, and carry-on bags.
Air New Zealand has assured passengers that the process will be quick, confidential, and voluntary, with no impact on flight schedules.
