Aitizaz Hasan’s parents take comfort in the belief that their son’s sacrifice was meaningful. They remind themselves, their family, and friends that Aitizaz is a hero who gave his life to save others.
On that unfortunate morning, Aitizaz arrived late to school and was not allowed to attend the morning assembly. While standing outside the school gate with two classmates, a man in his twenties approached them, pretending to be there for admission.
Aitizaz’s older brother, Mujtaba, explained that during their conversation, one of the students noticed a detonator. Aitizaz’s brave friends quickly ran inside the school to alert others, but he chose to confront the person with the explosive vest. Tragically, he lost his life when the vest was detonated.
Mujtaba expressed his amazement at his brother’s heroic death. He emphasized that Aitizaz’s sacrifice was not in vain but rather a selfless act to protect humanity.
The incident took place at the only school in Ibrahimzai, an area in Hangu dominated by Shia Muslims. Around 2,000 students were present at the time of the attack. Later that day, Lashkar-e-Jhagvi claimed responsibility for the sicide bom*ing, marking it as the first such attack targeting a school.
