Apple to Introduce Magnetic Chargers to Its iPhones and iPads

According to a new patent recently granted to Apple, potential iPhones and iPads could include magnetic chargers of their own. The phone will be devoid of a Lightning port for charging and data transmission, which is found on all iPhones and the majority of iPads.

Apple was granted a patent for a new magnetic connector capable of transmitting power to the iPhone by the US Patent and Trademark Office this week. This follows reports that Apple will remove the Lightning port from its smartphones in the future.

The patent depicts a new kind of connector that resembles the Smart Connector on the iPad and even the MagSafe on older MacBooks. According to the illustrations, this connector will replace the Lightning port as a new way to charge the iPhone.
